Mike Bartlett was born October 7 1980 in Oxford, England, and studied English and Theatre Studies at the University of Leeds.

He began to achieve critical recognition with his radio play Not Talking (2006) which won the Tinniswood Award in that year and was broadcast on BBC radio in 2007. In the same year he was ‘writer in residence’ at the Royal Court Theatre, London, a venue famed for encouraging and developing new writers. His play My Child was staged there in 2007, as was his play Cock (2009) which won a 2010 Lawrence Olivier Award.
