Łucja Rautenstrauchowa (b. 1798, d. 1886), the Polish author of sentimental romances and travelogues, was born Barbara Joanna Paulina Łucja Giedroyć. Her mother was Karolina née Borzymowska (1766-1858). Interestingly, Barbara only became known as Łucja after 1812, a year after Łucja Franciszka Tyszkiewicz, her mother’s close friend, was murdered. Her father was General Romuald Tadeusz Giedroyć (1750-1824), a friend of Empress Josephine.
