Maria Wirtemberska (Maria Anna Duchess von Württemberg-Montbéliard; b. March 15, 1768, in Warsaw; d. October 21, 1854, in Paris), Polish novelist, travel writer, author of books for peasants, and philanthropist, was descended from an old aristocratic family of the princes Czartoryski. Her parents were Prince Adam Kazimierz Czartoryski, writer, politician, and patron to scientists and artists, and his wife Izabela née Flemming. At the time of Maria’s birth, it was rumored that her real father was Stanisław August Poniatowski, the last king of Poland, who was known to have had an affair with Izabela.
