Born on 8 March 1913, in the Algerian village of Tizi Hibel, 129 km east of Algiers, Mouloud Feraoun (Mouloud Aït-Chabane) became a literary intellectual and eventual martyr of the Algerian revolution. He was assassinated by the OAS (Organisation de l’armée secrète [Organization of the Secret Army]), a pro-French-Algeria terrorist group against self-determination, with five of his colleagues at Château Royal in Algiers on 15 March 1962, three days before the formalization of the Evian Accords.
