Goli Taraghi is a contemporary Iranian short story writer and novelist. She was born in Tehran on October 10, 1939 (=Mehr 17, 1318 in the Iranian calendar) into a prosperous and culturally progressive family. Her father Lotfollah Taraghi was the chief editor and director of the weekly journal Taraqqi [Progress] (intermittently published between the years 1929 and 1965) (‘Abedini, 1990: 54). Through his journalistic occupation and his occasional interest in story writing, Lotfollah Taraghi played a significant role in his daughter’s later career as a writer.
