Zoya Pirzad is an Iranian novelist and short-story writer, who has won multiple awards for her literary career. She was born in 1952 (=1331 in Iranian calendar) to a mother and father with, respectively, Armenian and Russian backgrounds, in Abadan, a harbor-city in south-western Iran. There is not much that we know about Pirzad’s private life. On the back cover of the Persian editions of her books she is introduced in the following terms: “Zoya Pirzad was born in Abadan, went to school there, got married in Tehran and gave birth to her two sons, Sasha and Shervin.” She lives a quiet life and, despite having won several literary prizes, she rarely gives interviews and, when she does, her answers are concise.
