When a ‘writer’ writes his first short story at the age of six and a play five years later, he is considered a child prodigy. And when a man gains enormous success as an author, a translator, and as a writer of screenplays and dialogues, and also receives some of his country’s most prestigious awards for his achievements, he is hailed a genius. Vijay Dhondopant Tendulkar (1928-2008), belonging to the state of Maharashtra in western India, was both.
