Edgar Morin, born Edgar Nahoum on the 21^st of July 1921 in Paris, is a French sociologist and philosopher. Starting his career examining various different aspects of popular culture within the framework of what he calls the “sociology of the present”, Morin’s thought diversified in the early 1970s, engaging more closely with recent theoretical developments in the natural sciences. The result was the six-volume chef d’oeuvre, La Méthode (1977-2004), which synthesizes physics, biology, and anthropology into a theoretical framework whose key notion is “complexity”.
