Magali García Ramis (born Fredeswinda Magali Antonia García Ramis) is one of the best-known contemporary Puerto Rican writers. Her first novel, Felices días, tío Sergio [Happy Days, Uncle Sergio](1986), is considered the most important Bildungsroman in Puerto Rican literature. She is part of the “Generación del 70” [Generation of 1970], a group of writers known for exploring themes and tropes that were new to Puerto Rican narratives (for instance the use of history in the plot for aesthetic purposes, new ways of portraying the proletariat, the presentation of the decline of the middle class, and an emphasis on the literariness of texts).
