The poet Richard Robinson, and author of The Rewarde of Wickednesse and A Golden Mirror, must be differentiated from the compiler and translator Richard Robinson of London. We know very little about the poet Robinson, except that he was probably from Alton in Staffordshire (‘Robinson, Richard’ (fl. 1573–1589)’, Brian Cummings, Oxford Dictionary of National Biography, Oxford University Press, 2004). In the preliminary matters of his epic poem The Rewarde of Wickednesse he identifies himself as a servant for the Earl of Shrewsbury and he dedicated The Rewarde of Wickednesse to Gilbert Talbot, the Earl of Shrewsbury’s second son.
