Guido Guinizelli was a thirteenth-century Florentine poet who was considered the founder of a new school of poetry known as the dolce stil novo, the sweet new style, that revolutionized the Italian love lyric. The school included such well-known poets as Dante Alighieri, Guido Cavalcanti, Lapo Gianni, Gianni Alfani, Guido Frescobaldi and Cino da Pistoia, most of whom looked to Guinizelli as their teacher.

Guido Guinizelli was born in Bologna circa 1240 to Guglielmina di Ugolino Chisleri and Guinizello da Magnano.
