“Guerrillero Heroico” (Heroic Guerrilla), the iconic portrait of Che Guevara taken by Cuban photographer Alberto Korda in March 1960, is claimed to be the most reproduced photograph in history. Whether it has been appropriated by revolutionaries opposing the profit-based market system or by salesmen seeking to profit from the market, the portrait has served to perpetuate the caricature of Guevara as a revolutionary dreamer and armed internationalist.
