Percival Everett is one of the most prolific African American writers working today. He was born in Fort Gordan, Georgia, but his early years were spent primarily in Columbia, South Carolina. The South has certainly influenced his aesthetic sensibilities; however, since roughly 1991, Everett has been Distinguished Professor of English at the University of Southern California, and the majority of his creative work is set in the American West.
