Dino Buzzati, one of the most prominent Italian writers of the twentieth century, is a pivotal figure in modern fantastic literature. The third of four children, Buzzati was born in San Pellegrino, near Belluno, in northeastern Italy, on October 16th, 1906. His father, Giulio Cesare, was a professor of constitutional law at the University of Pavia and the Bocconi University of Milan, while his grandfather Augusto (Giulio Cesare’s father) was a renowned judge of the Appeals Court (Corte d’Appello) of Venice.
