Ingo Schulze has emerged as one of the most important and most highly regarded voices of post-Wende Germany. Two of his works have already been praised with the singular title “the novel of reunification”.
Schulze was born in Dresden in 1962, where he lived with his mother until passing the Abitur (baccalaureate examination taken at the end of secondary school) in 1981. Upon completion of compulsory service in the East German National People’s Army, he studied classical philology at the University of Jena (1983-88), after which he spent two years as dramaturge at the Regional Theater in Altenburg, Thuringia.
