Lucia Lopresti was born in Florence on June 27th, 1895, to a family of Calabrian background. Using the pseudonym ‘Anna Banti', she was a prominent figure on the Italian cultural scene for almost fifty years. Banti was an art historian, author, literary and film critic, translator, and founder and co-editor, with her husband, Roberto Longhi, of the renowned journal Paragone. She was a prolific writer and authored nine novels, one play, seven collections of short stories, numerous critical monographs, articles, and translations.
