A native of Chicago, born there in 1959, and a graduate of Wake Forest University, Stephen Amidon has lived for some time as an expatriate in the United Kingdom. He has written book and film reviews, as well as cultural commentary, for the Financial Times, the Guardian, the Literary Review, the New York Times, the Observer, and the Sunday Times. Although Amidon had previously written three novels and three collections of short stories, his work did not receive a great deal of critical notice until the publication of his third novel, The New City (Doubleday, 2000). His work has been recognized with a Bursary award from the Arts Council of Great Britain.
