i) Biographical introduction
Guillaume Dustan was born William Baranès in November 1965 into a middle-class French Jewish family. After studying at the prestigious Institut d’Etudes Politiques de Paris (“Sciences-Po”) and subsequently at the élite management training school for high-ranking civil servants, the Ecole Nationale d’Administration (1988 cohort), Baranès worked as a magistrate in the French administrative court system until 1996, when writer Guillaume Dustan emerged with the publication of his first book, Dans ma chambre.
