Jim Crace is a contemporary English writer and fellow of The Royal Society of Literature, whose work has accrued numerous awards, in addition to garnering a sizable popular following, particularly in America, where his work is better known than in his native Britain.
Crace was born in 1946 at Brocket Hall, near Welwyn in Hertfordshire, and grew up near Enfield in London. He later moved away from London and currently resides in Moseley, south Birmingham. The plight of the ex-manufacturing region has, in fact, tacitly inspired his early novel The Gift of Stones (1988).
