Frieda Blackwell

, Frieda Hilda Blackwell is currently Professor of Spanish at Baylor University in Waco, Texas, USA where she has taught since 1989. She received her MA and PhD from Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee in 1979 and 1983 respectively. Her doctoral dissertation, later published by Albatros/Hispanófila/University of North Carolina in 1985 was entitled The Game of Literature: Demythification and Parody in Novels of Gonzalo Torrente Ballester. Much of the research came from her interviews with Torrente Ballester in 1981 in his home in Salamanca. She taught at Howard Payne University in Brownwood, Texas from1983 to1989. She has published several articles on Torrente Ballester in Dictionary of Literary Biography, an edited volume by Janet Pérez and Stephen Miller published by Hispanic Society of America and several other venues. She has also published articles on Federico García Lorca in Hispanía and Cauce, on Enrique Jardiel Poncela in Letras peninsulares and Contextos, and on Miguel Delibes in Hispanic Journal. She has served as Associate Dean for Humanities at Baylor University for the last 25 years. She has also presented on many nineteenth and twentieth-century novelists, dramatists and poets at some 50 literary conferences over the past 30 years.
