Alfonso Procaccini

Alfonso Procaccini, professor of Italian literature at Smith College, received his PhD at The John Hopkins University in 1975 with a dissertation on Francesco Jovine. Following graduation he taught in the Italian department of Yale University, from 1975 till 1981, after which he moved to Smith College where he has taught courses in the Departments of Italian, Comparative Literature and Medieval Studies. His teaching includes: Dante's Divine Comedy; Boccaccio's Decameron: Disease as a metaphor; Arcadia and Utopia in the Renaissance; Manzoni's I Promessi Sposi; Modern Italian poetry and the novel; Italy by Vespa; Italy - La Dolce Vita. His primary research includes publications on Dante, Boccaccio, Alberti, Manzoni, Pirandello, Pavese and Pasolini.
