Monika Raic
Monika Raič is a doctoral candidate at the Department of Comparative Literature (University of Innsbruck), where she also holds a university assistant position. In her doctoral project she studies the theoretical intersections of cosmopolitanism, orientalism and world literature. Thematically, she analyses Gustave Flaubert's ‘Voyage en Orient’ in combination with Roberto Arlt’s ‘Aguafuertes’ from Morocco and later texts that include oriental motifs. The spectre of her analysis is widened by an assessment of Maxime Du Camp’s Egypt photography and representations of 'the Orient’ in films from the 1920/30ies (esp. Georg Wilhelm Pabst and Joseph von Sternberg).
Monika's general research interest include aesthetics, literary, media and cultural theory as well as political philosophy with a special interest in current global issues such as discourses on the ‘anthropocene’.
