Santiago Bertrán
Dr Santiago Bertrán (santiago.bertran@keble.ox.ac.uk)
Santiago earned his PhD in Hispanic Studies from the University of Edinburgh in 2018, with a thesis on the novels of Spanish writer Javier Marías and their relation with the philosophy of José Ortega y Gasset and Julián Marías. Santiago is interested in the intersections between literature and philosophy, with a focus on the distinct strands that emerged from the Generation of 98 and early twentieth-century modern thought and their effect on subsequent developments during the Dictatorship and Post-Franco periods. Santiago has been teaching Spanish language, literature, and culture at the university level in the UK since 2012, when he started tutoring at the University of Edinburgh. Since January 2019 he has been working at the University of Oxford, first as a Stipendiary lecturer at Exeter College and Keble College, and now as a College lecturer at Keble College. Now he contributes to the LE as Editorial Assistant for the section of ‘Modern and Contemporary Spanish Writing and Culture’.
