Johanna Sellman

Johanna Sellman is Assistant Professor of Arabic Language and Literature in the Department of Near Eastern Languages and Cultures at The Ohio State University. She earned her PhD in Comparative Literature from The University of Texas at Austin in 2013 focusing on modern Arabic, francophone, and Scandinavian literatures. Her research interests include contemporary Arabic and francophone literature, migration literature, gender studies, and Arabic literature and theater in the Nordic Countries. Johanna Sellman’s current book project, Borders of Belonging: Citizenship in Contemporary Arabic Migration Literature , analyzes recent Arabic literature of forced migration to Europe and the way that it is staging shifting understandings of citizenship, migration, and exile. Her recent research appears in Journal of Arabic Literature, Al- cArabiyya: Journal of The American Association of Teachers of Arabic, and Theatre Research International . At OSU, Johanna Sellman teaches courses on modern and Medieval Arabic literature, Arabic-English translation, and Contemporary Arab Cultures.
