Kathrina LaPorta
Kathrina A. LaPorta received a Ph.D. in French Literature from
New York University in 2014. Katie's research investigates the
intersections between literature and politics in the ancien régime,
with a particular interest in pamphlet literature. She is currently
preparing a book manuscript on the pamphlets that denounced Louis
XIV's absolutist regime, using the concept of performativity as a
point of entry to understand how the transformation of the king
into a spectacle challenges the monarchy’s monopoly over the
performance of sovereignty. Portions of this work have appeared in
Early Modern French Studies and French Studies
Bulletin. With Christophe Schuwey, Katie is preparing an
web-based critical edition for anti-absolutist pamphlets.
Katie has taught courses in French language and literature at
Dartmouth College, Barnard College, and New York University, where
she is currently a Postdoctoral Lecturer in French.
