Charlotta Salmi
Charlotta Salmi is a British Academy Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the University of Birmingham. Her research focuses on different forms of violence in contemporary postcolonial and world literature. Her doctoral work on Bordering the World in Contemporary Partition Literature explored alternative forms of community in travel texts, romances and novels from India, Pakistan, Israel and Palestine; while her current project looks at the representation of sectarian, state and neo-imperial violence in graphic novels and comic journalism from the Middle East, North Africa and South Asia. She won the Postcolonial Studies Association Postgraduate Essay Prize in 2011 for her work on Raja Shehadeh’s travel writing.
