Marine Ganofsky

Marine Ganofsky is lecturer in eighteenth-century French literature and intellectual history at the University of St Andrews (UK). She is the author of Night in Eighteenth-Century French Libertine Fiction and the editor of the collection of libertine stories Petits soupers libertins. She has co-edited volumes on eighteenth-century France’s alleged lightness (Le Siècle de la légèreté, with Jean-Alexandre Perras) and on virtue in the Age of Enlightenment (Enlightenment Virtue, with James Fowler). Her research aims at exploring the eighteenth century’s quest for happiness, hence her interest for libertinage and its representations. She is studying the period’s complex relationship with illusions, caught as it was between the search for Truth and a desire for voluptuousness, that pleasure which depends on imagination.
