Síofra Pierse

Síofra Pierse is Associate Professor of French and Francophone Studies, UCD Dublin, Ireland. She is a former Irish Council for the Humanities and Social Sciences Research Fellow. She completed her D.Phil. in Modern Languages as a Rhodes Scholar at Oxford University (Trinity College), England in 1999. Her undergraduate studies were in French and Italian at University College Cork, Ireland. She was lectrice and maître de langues at École normale supérieure, rue d'Ulm, Paris before taking up a lecturing post at UCD Dublin. Her research focuses mainly on eighteenth-century French literature, history, and history of ideas, with a primary focus on Voltaire’s historiography. She has published articles on a wide variety of eighteenth-century topics including Voltaire, Diderot, scepticism, the 18th-century city, and female authors such as Riccoboni, Graffigny, or Charrière. Her monograph Voltaire historiographer: narrative paradigms was published by the Voltaire Foundation, Oxford. She is currently working on doubt in eighteenth-century French literature.
