Carolyn James

Carolyn James (Ph.D., University of Melbourne, 2000)is Cassamarca Senior Lecturer in the School of Historical Studies at Monash University. She is the author of two books on the late 15th-century literary figure, Giovanni Sabadino degli Arienti, Giovanni Sabadino degli Arienti: A Literary Career (Florence: L S Olschki, 1996) and The Letters of Giovanni Sabadino degli Arienti, 1481–1510 (Florence: L S Olschki/The University of Western Australia, 2002). She is presently working on an Australian Research Council-funded project which will examine the political and cultural roles of elite women in the early modern Italian state. The research focuses particurly on Mantua in the late fifteeth and early sixteenth centuries. She is also translating with Antonio Pagliaro of La Trobe University the 252 surviving letters of Margherita Datini, written between 1384 and 1410, for the Series The Other Voice in Early Modern Europe, edited by Albert Rabil and Margaret King.
