Troy Urquhart

Born in northwest Florida, Troy Urquhart holds B.A. and M.A. degrees in English and an Ed.S. in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of West Florida. He serves as Dean of the Middle School at Montverde Academy in Central Florida. Previously, he taught courses in writing and American literature at Montverde Academy and Fort Walton Beach High School, he served as Head of Upper School at Episcopal Collegiate School in Little Rock, and he served as Director of Professional Development, as Dean of Students, and as Dean of the Upper School at Montverde.

Troy is the author of Springtime Sea Bathing (Greying Ghost Press, 2010), a former contributor to Vouched Books, and editor of the journal Willows Wept Review. His poetry has appeared in journals including PANK Magazine, NCTE's English Journal, Mud Luscious, The Inflectionist Review, elimae, and > kill author. His scholarly publications include articles in Twentieth-Century Literature, The Literary Encyclopedia, Romanticism on the Net, and The Explicator as well as reviews for PANK Magazine and The Rocky Mountain Review of Language and Literature. His freelance writing has included work for Houghton Mifflin and for Freedom Communications.

Beginning in 2005, he has served as a reader and table leader for the College Board's Advanced Placement English Language and Composition examination. He has also served as a faculty advisor for the Thoreau Society, contributing to the curriculum to accompany the documentary film Life with Principle, and as an accreditation team member for the Florida Council of Independent Schools and the Southwestern Association of Episcopal Schools.

Troy is a certified Level I coach with USA Track and Field, and he served as head coach of the Cross Country teams and as assistant coach of the Track and Field teams at Montverde Academy from 2006 to 2016.

Troy is a member of the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, Modern Language Association, USA Track and Field, Tau Kappa Epsilon International Fraternity, the Cum Laude Society, and the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi.
