Kees den Biesen

Kees den Biesen (Maastricht, 1959) is an independent scholar of early Christian literatures - Latin, Greek and Oriental - with a specialisation in the literature, symbolic theology and spirituality of Syriac Christianity. He is research associate of the Department of Ancient Language of Pretoria University, visiting professor at the MA Syriac Theology program at Salzburg University, and works as a freelance lecturer, researcher and author. His main interest is the interaction between literary form, thought and religion. He dedicated an extensive study to Ephrem the Syrian, Simple and Bold: Ephrem's Art of Symbolical Thought (2006). He also published the Annotated Bibliography of Ephrem the Syrian (2011). Besides oriental Christian authors he also lectures and writes about the poetry and symbolic thought of Dante Alighieri.
