Carol Ann Duffy was born in Glasgow on 23. December 1955. Her childhood and youth was spent in Staffordshire, England. She studied philosophy at Liverpool University from which she graduated in 1977. Her time in Liverpool had an important impact on her poetic work, particularly because of her relationship and literary collaboration with Adrian Henri, one of the Liverpool (or “Mersey Sound”) Poets. In the early 1980s Duffy moved to London where she quickly became a major player on the scene of contemporary poetry.
