Aulus Cornelius Celsus is a Roman writer from the first century A.D. We do not know much about his private life, though a hypothesis has been ventured that he was a native of Narbonese Gaul.

Celsus composed an encyclopaedia with the title of Artes during the reign of emperor Tiberius (sometime between AD 14 and 37). Of this encyclopaedia only the medical part, entitled De Medicina (On Medicine), has survived extensively until today, whereas the other sections are only known through fragments passed down mostly by Quintilian or Columella. These sections dealt with agriculture, medicine, philosophy, rhetorics and the military arts; they probably did not include law.
