Fay Weldon has always been a weaver of spellbinding fictions which engage with the culturally contemporary, and with the myths underlying ideologies of power and gender. Growing Rich, a six-part serial on ITV in the 1990s, broke new ground formally for Fay Weldon. The simultaneous publication of the book with the televising of the series captured audiences twice, and caused them necessarily to consider the differences, the losses and gains, in the two forms of Growing Rich with which they are presented.
