Billy Bunter is a character in stories by Charles Harold St John Hamilton (1876-1961), published under the pen name Frank Richards. Hamilton is the most prolific author ever, and his Bunter stories are almost beyond count, running to the equivalent of many hundreds of novels over more than half a century. There are well over two-thousand Bunter stories (mostly of 15,000-20,000 words) originally published in weekly magazines for boys (1908-1940), while subsequent to the Second World War there are 38 Bunter novels (with “Billy Bunter” in the title) as well as further short stories, all set at Greyfriars School.
