Der Spiegel im Spiegel: Ein Labyrinth [The Mirror in the Mirror: a Labyrinth, 1986] is a collection of short tales first published in 1984, only four years after the publication of Die Unendliche Geschichte [The Neverending Story, 1983] garnered international recognition for its author, Michael Ende. While there are many thematic similarities between both texts—a preoccupation with the power of imagination and the journey into a world within another world, to name but a few—this book is markedly different in its construction and defies easy classification due to its experimental narrative structure.
