The Nouvelles Nouvelles [New Stories] is a heterogeneous compilation by Jean Donneau de Visé issued anonymously in February 1663 in three volumes enhanced by six engravings. It includes works of various lengths and genres, all of them closely related to recent matters or trends. Aimed at reaching a large, worldly audience (the same reading public of Racine’s tragedies, Scudéry’s novels and Benserade’s poems), the book is constructed using extreme strategies to attract readers and become a sensation; it includes a wide range of subjects and some innovative ways to quickly adapt the content to the most trending topics.
