More than 30 years after its first production at Toronto’s Annex Theatre as part of Nightwood Theatre’s 1988 season, Ann-Marie MacDonald’s Goodnight Desdemona (Good Morning Juliet) continues to be regularly performed worldwide. Important productions of the play include Classic Stage Company’s 1992 off-Broadway staging, with Cherry Jones in the lead role of Constance Ledbelly; Jackie Maxwell’s staging of the play, first at Buddies in Bad Times Theatre in Toronto (1994) and later at The Grand Theatre in London, Ontario (1996); and the 2001 Canadian Stage production at the Bluma Appel Theatre in Toronto, which starred Ann-Marie MacDonald as Constance.
