Treatise

An anonymus Greek orthographical treatise of the middle ages. It was first published by C.G. Goettling [1822: 61-79] in a rather unsatisfactory edition which was based on only two manuscripts of the work, namely Paris. gr. 2553 and 2555. [See general discussions in Uhlig 1883: XXVI-XXVIII; LV; Egenolff 1888: 10-13; Schneider 1999: 131-75, criticised by Alpers 2004: 23-26; Valente 2010: 643-50.]

The manuscripts of the work present the treatise (whose title is Perí Grammatikês = On Grammar) as a work of the Alexandrian grammarian Theodosius (4^th-5^th cent. AD), something which is definitely false. The other name used for the treatise by some researchers (e.g. Schneider 1999: 131-1…
