Makibefo (1999) is a black and white film adaptation of Shakespeare’s Macbeth, set in Madagascar. In fact it is less an adaptation than a kind of anthropological experiment. British director Alexander Abela, with one colleague, traveled to Faux-Cap, a town on the southern point of Madagascar, where he created the film with the Antandroy, an isolated tribe of fishermen.
