Antoine Volodine (b.1949/50) is one of the most important figures in France’s contemporary literary landscape. Since the late 1980s, he has produced some of the most imaginative and ambitious fiction of the contemporary period, single-mindedly pursuing a unified literary project under the name of “post-exoticism”. A recipient of the Prix Médicis (2014), the Prix du Livre Inter (2000), and the Grand Prix de l’Imaginaire (1987) among other distinctions, Volodine’s prestige as one of France’s foremost novelists is beyond doubt.
