Context

Maria Albertina Loschi represented the donna tipo tre (the third kind of woman), an independent and resolute woman differing from both the angel of the house and the femme fatale. She was determined to become a journalist and affirm her own convictions. Always interested in visiting new countries, she described these foreign lands faithfully for her readers while at the same time remaining proud of her Italianness.

Loschi was the daughter of a nobleman, Count Lodovico Loschi. She was born in Piacenza in 1888, 1890, or perhaps in 1895; the date is not certain because she herself did not always declare the same year. In spite of her noble origins, the family was not wealthy. After graduating in m…
