Jawdat R. Haydar (1905-2006) was a Lebanese centenarian poet who started writing poetry in English while pursuing his BS in Education at North Texas University in the 1920s (he also wrote Arabic poetry after the death of his wife in 1984). He published four volumes of poetry, Voices (1980), Echoes (1989), Shadows (1998) and 101 Selected Poems (2006). Four years before his passing, he published his autobiography Mishwar al ‘Umr (“Life’s Journey”) which documents the poet’s several public roles and reveals his poetic and philosophic thoughts.
