Andreï Makine’s novel Requiem pour l’Est (2000) comprises the second part of what is referred to as his “French-Russian trilogy” (Nazarova 82). Geoffrey Strachan’s English translation from 2001 has been published under the titles Requiem for a Lost Empire (US edition) and Requiem for the East (UK edition).

Requiem pour l’Est is freestanding in relation to the other parts of the trilogy, Le testament français (1995, Dreams of My Russian Summers) and La terre et le ciel de Jacques Dorme (2003, The Earth and Sky of Jacques Dorme).
