In French-speaking Quebec, Vittorio Rossi is best known as an actor, due largely to his role as Detective Tom Celano in the television series Omerta: La loi du silence, which held the highest viewer ratings in Quebec in 1996, 1997 and 1998, and his cameo appearance as the American nemesis who strangles the film's heroine in the award-winning film Post Mortem (1999). Although his acting credits in American and Canadian films and television are substantial, in the English-speaking world, Rossi is more readily and widely identified as a playwright. Rossi is considered to be the first playwright of note to present a distinctly Italian-Canadian voice on the English-Canadian stage.
