Beverley Rosen Simons is an important voice in the first wave of Canadian play writing, particularly regarding its project to explore new artistic territory.

Born Beverley Rosen in Flin Flon Manitoba, she was marked early in life by the racism and anti-semitism that her family members experienced during the Depression and the Holocaust. After high school in Edmonton, Alberta, she accepted a scholarship to study creative writing at the Banff School of Fine Arts. In 1955 she enrolled at McGill to study English Literature, where she helped to found the McGill University Players. Transferring to UBC, she graduated in 1959 with a BA degree in English and Theatre. Her extended travels over the next decade developed her education …
